Beautifully understated, and avoiding many caricature cliches of ‘quirky indie’ movies, this endearing North Carolina drama showcases independent cinema as it should be, and lingers surprisingly long in the memory. Great breakthrough performance from Amy Adams, who earned an Oscar nomination. Indie gem.

This is honestly my favorite day of the year. What’s not to love about dressing up and getting candy (when you’re a kid)? Anyway, I just wanted to say Happy Halloween…and I’m looking forward to the Night of the Living Dead re-mastered marathon on AMC tonight!

Sony’s Michael Jackson documentary “This Is It” held on to the No. 1 spot at the North American box office Friday with an estimated $7.8 million in ticket sales. The film’s domestic total stands at $19 million.
“This Is It” opened in conventional theaters and IMAX Wednesday, generating a daily gross of $7.4 million, which included $2.2 million from shows Tuesday night. The film bagged $3.7 million Thursday.
Most of the film’s footage was shot in June 2009 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. It includes scenes drawn from hours of rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage.

It’s another bright day for Twilighters, because MTV has just released a brand-new clip from Chris Weitz’s upcoming “Twilight” sequel “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” Check it out after the jump.
And yes, Bella (Kristen Stewart) does bleed in this one-minute clip, which shows her enjoying some awkward time with the Cullen clan, including her vampire sweetheart Edward (Robert Pattinson).
As you know by now, the vamps adore blood and all, which makes this particular situation even more awkward. Poor Bella! In fact, this whole clip just feels a little awkward to me, but see for yourself.

Stepping out to help her husband celebrate his birthday, Gwen Stefani was spotted at Madeo restaurant in Beverly Hills yesterday (October 30).
The “Hollaback Girl” songstress looked “rocker chic” in a black and white shawl with a very bright bra shining through from underneath.
Gwen’s husband of 7 years, Gavin Rossdale, turned 42 years young yesterday, but it sounds like the musician is more excited about Halloween this year than his birthday.
He told press that he will be dressing up as Buzzyear, the kids will be dressing as “furry, cuddly” dinosaurs and Gwen will be in surprise costume “that looks incredible – like every other day.”
